Bill Discala
Born in Staten Island, Bill’s interest in horses began when he was seven years old and walked ponies at a stable near his home. An avid rider, he has competed in jumping in Ireland, as well as in barrel racing and trail riding. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in marketing, Bill moved back to New York and began a career on Wall Street. One of the industry's leading young financial advisors, he was a Vice President at Shearson Lehman Brothers at the young age of 27. He also held executive positions as a broker at Paine Webber and Merrill Lynch. While there, one of Bill's clients sold him a mare. A couple of horse enthusiasts confirmed that it was a good purchase and Bill decided to breed her. In 1994, Bill founded Karakorum Farms to breed Thoroughbreds. He left Merrill Lynch to run Karakorum as a racing stable full time in 1996. With Karakorum, Bill's vision is to bring Thoroughbred ownership to the average racing fan, the person who would not otherwise have the means or knowledge to compete with the sport's wealthier Thoroughbred owners. |
